UIL Concert & Sight-Reading

April 26th & 27th at Fulshear High School

The Symphonic band will have UIL next Tuesday, April 26th at 2:30pm and the Wind Ensemble will have UIL next Wednesday, April 27th at 4:30pm. Please see a full itinerary below. Students will be wearing their concert uniforms. Please ensure that you have all of your uniform items on that day.

Performances are at Fulshear High School and are free to the public. Please come out and support our students who have worked very hard to prepare for UIL. Plan to arrive early, you may need to raptor in at the office to enter the building. You may also attend the Sight-reading which is also open to the public. Sight-Reading will take place in the Fulshear Band hall immediately after the stage performance. Just follow the band when they leave the stage.

Auditions are due May 8th!!!

Purpose of the Assessment

  • We will use the results of the assessment to help determine the placement in performing bands for next year

  • Students will be placed in Wind Ensemble(1st Period), Symphonic(2nd Period), or Concert Band(3rd Period)

Audition Scales

Students will perform 12 Major scales in the format from the 12 Major Scales sheet. Students will have a time limit of 2 Minutes. Students should perform as many scales in as many octaves as they can within the time limit. Scales must be performed with no finger mistakes to receive credit.

 

Priorities of Scales Audition

  • Beautiful sound and approach to instrument

  • Correct Notes

  • Correct Rhythm with an even steady tempo

  • Articulation: Tongue up and Slur Down

  • Tempo(Only play as fast as you can cleanly)

 

Fight Song Audition

Students will play the Kempner Fight Song taking the 2nd ending(No repeat). Students must perform the Fight Song at 120BPM to receive full credit. Students will receive up to 100 pts for the Fight Song audition. The Fight Song should be performed in a “March Style”. Staccato 8th notes, lifted quarters, and firm articulation should be used throughout.

Physicals 22-23

List of physicals received as of July 11th

All members of the Kempner Band are required to receive a new UIL Physical for the 22-23 school year!!! There are several dates available below to get a $20(cash only) physical through Methodist. Must bring BOTH Physical Form and Methodist Consent Form. You may also get a UIL physical through your Primary Care Physician. All Physicals are due and a copy must be turned into Mr. Brodt by July 25th.

  • Bring glasses or wear contacts, if you have corrected vision

  • Please bring signed physical consent form

  • Masks must be worn to enter the clinic and during physicals

  • Social distancing is required
