Action Items Before Band Camp 25-26

BAND CAMP IS MANDATORY FOR ALL BAND STUDENTS!!!

Camp begins July 21st for Percussion and Color Guard, July 24th for new freshman, and July 28th for All Members. . Check the calendar for a complete schedule of all rehearsals.

Physicals

All band students should have completed and turned in a physical by now. If you have not done so, please take care of this ASAP. All students must have a physical to participate in Band. For more information regarding physicals, please click here: physicals

Flip Folder/Lyre

All woodwind and brass students are required to have a flip folder and a lyre. You can purchase these items at any of our local music stores; Music & Arts, H&H, Fort Bend Music Center. You must have these items by July 24th.

White T-Shirts/Rehearsal uniform

All band students must wear white-t-shirts at marching band rehearsals including band camp. It is okay if the t-shirts have logos or writing on them, as long as they are mostly white. Students must wear some type of tennis shoe for rehearsals; no sandals, slides, high heels, etc. NO CROCS!!! It is recommended that students wear basketball style shorts for rehearsal. There is no requirement for color.

Hot Weather Uniform

We wear hot weather uniforms for football games and performances when the temperature is extreme, usually the first 2-4 games of the year. We also wear hot weather uniforms for pep rallies, after performances at contest, etc..

Band Fees

The general band fee for 25-26 is $400. The Final band fee payment is due August 1st. Students may not be given a spot in our marching band show if fees have not been taken care of. You can see all information regarding fees on this page: Band Fees.


Solo & Ensemble Contest 2025

Monday, May 13th

All Band students are required to play a Solo for contest(Except Color Guard). Participation will count as a double major grade. Students unable to attend in person due to health concerns will have to play their solo in front of class.

Students need to arrive to Kempner on May 15th at least 15 minutes prior to their performance time. Upon arrival students will go to the commons and assemble their instrument and warm-up. At their performance time they will go to the location indicated on the performance schedule and play their solo for a judge. Family members are welcome to sit in and watch the performance.

Schedule

Dress

Students need to dress in performance attire. No jeans, No T-Shirts, No shorts, No tennis shoes.

ccccch student plays they need to introduce themselves. “Hello, my name is_____. I will be playing______ composed by_______.”

Rating

Students will receive a rating based on their performance. Division 1, 2, 3, or 4. Students who receive a division 1 rating will receive a medal. After your performance, results will be distributed in Mr. Brodt’s office along with medals.

Pass-Off Assignments

All students are required to turn in 4 pass-off assignments on Schoology on their solo. Students are to record themselves playing the assignment and submit in schoology. Each assignment will count as a Major Grade. Late submissions will only count as partial credit. TURN IN ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME!!!

  • Feb 16th- 16 measures of solo

  • Mar 8th- Half of solo

  • April 5th- Entire solo

  • April 26th- Entire solo with recorded accompaniment

Wind Ensemble HCU Concert/Recording

Location:HCU Morris Cultural Arts Center

On Wednesday, May 21st the Wind Ensemble will have a concert at the HCU Morris Cultural Arts Center. All Wind Ensemble members will be performing their Concert Program.

This performance is free and open to the public. We would love for you to come out and support our awesome Wind Ensemble students.

Performances count as a Double Major Grade. Do not miss the the Round Top Concert for any reason!!!

7:30 am - Report to band hall(1st period)
9:00 am - Change/Load
9:30 am - Depart
9:45 am - Lunch at Chic-fil-a($$$)
11:30 pm - Arrive/Unload
12:15 pm - PERFORMANCE
1:30 pm - Depart 
2:00 pm - Arrive at KHS
