Reed Policy
The following is a recommended list of reeds for Kempner Band students. If students wish to use a reed not on this list, it needs to be approved by Mr. Brodt. It is imperative that students have high quality reeds in order to have a successful experience playing an instrument.
Students should always have at least 3 good working reeds.
Students are expected to purchase their own reeds. Reeds can be purchased at any of the local music stores(H&H, Fort Bend Music, Music & Arts) or online(Amazon, wwbw.com, etc).
Emergencies: Reed emergencies should not happen if students always have 3 working reeds. The likelihood of all 3 reeds breaking on the same day is almost impossible. In this very rare case, Mr. Brodt may have a reed that the student can have. If a student takes a reed from Mr. Brodt they must replace this reed with a brand new one of the same type within a week.
Reed Checks: Mr. Brodt will conduct weekly reed checks. He will inspect each student and ensure they have at least 3 reeds in good condition. Failure to pass inspection will result in the lowering of daily participation grade.
