$300 Marching Band Fee

All marching band fees must be paid in full by September 1st, 2020. There will be no refunds, partial or full, issued after September 1st. Please DO NOT pay fees through CHARMS. Make payments through Zelle(See instructions below)

The member fees for marching band include marching and concert uniform use and maintenance fees, marching gloves, music and drill supplies, props, instruction specialist, all marching contest entry fees, contest meals and travel, and much, much more - all of which help contribute to a wonderful experience in the Kempner High School Band Program.

* Additional fees are required for members of Color Guard and Indoor Drumline(See below)

* Required MTX Marching Shoes Not Included.

These fees are required for Color Guard and Percussion members and must pay these fees in addition to the marching band fee.

Optional items

$60 Game Day Meal Plan- This fee provides meals for 9 football games. If you do not purchase the meal plan you will have to bting a sack lunch or provide your own meals for games.

$20 Region Band Audition Fee(Required for Wind Ensemble members)

Band Camp 2020

July 20th- July 24th, 8am-5pm Percussion/Guard Camp

July 27th – July 28th, 8am-5pm Freshman Band Camp

July29th-July 31st, 8am-5pm Full Band

August 3rd - August 7th, 4pm-9pm Full Band

August 10th - August 14th, 4pm-9pm Full Band

Mandatory

Participation in Band Camp is mandatory for all incoming and current band students. It is imperative that all band students attend camp for the program to be successful. We will be learning our marching show, stand tunes, and brigade music. Students will NOT have a spot in the marching show if they miss band camp!!!

Auditions for Placement 21-22

12 Major Scales

Fight Song

Auditions will be submitted through schoology by May 1st.

Purpose of the Assessment

  • We will use the results of the assessment to help determine the placement in performing bands for next year

  • Students will be placed in Wind Ensemble(Varsity), Symphonic(Non-Varsity), or Concert Band(Sub-Non_Varsity)

  • Commitment

  • Work Ethic/Attitude

  • Grades

  • Private Lessons

  • Director Recommendations

  • Available Spots

 

Audition Scales

Students will perform 12 Major scales in the format from the 12 Major Scales sheet. Students will have a time limit of 2 Minutes. Students should perform as many scales in as many octaves as they can within the time limit. Scales must be performed with no finger mistakes to receive credit.

 

Priorities of Scales Audition

  • Beautiful sound and approach to instrument

  • Correct Notes

  • Correct Rhythm with an even steady tempo

  • Articulation: Tongue up and Slur Down

  • Tempo(Only play as fast as you can cleanly)

 

Fight Song Audition

Students will play the Kempner Fight Song taking the 2nd ending(No repeat). Students must perform the Fight Song at 120BPM to receive full credit. Students will receive up to 100 pts for the Fight Song audition. The Fight Song should be performed in a “March Style”. Staccato 8th notes, lifted quarters, and firm articulation should be used throughout.
