US Bands Clear Lake Contest

On Saturday, September 28th we are performing for the Houston Regional US Bands Contest at Challenger Stadium in Clear Creek ISD. This is a Pre-lims/Finals style contest. We will perform in our pre-lims performance at 3:15pm and will be evaluated by 3 music, 2 visual judges, percussion judge, and guard judge. Only the top 12 bands will advance to Finals. Finals will begin that evening and the 12 finalist will perform again and be ranked based on their finals performance.

Dress: Full Uniform: Students need to wear LONG BLACK SOCKS with the full uniform. Students will wear their member shirt underneath the uniform. They will also wear black compression shorts or black basketball shorts underneath. Students with long hair will have to pull their hair into a “high schow bun” when in uniform. Students are not permitted to wear jewelry when in uniform. Students are not permitted to have nail polish on when in uniform. Students are not permitted to eat when in uniform.

Meals- The band boosters will provide Pizza and Drinks after our pre-lims performance at . They will also provide gatorade and snacks after our pre-lim performance. Students should bring $$$ for concessions for the evening.

Stadium Rehearsal

Monday, September 23rd

Kempner Band Family,

We will be rehearsing Monday, September 23rd at Mercer Stadium Stadium at 6:00 pm-9:00 pm. This is a required rehearsal for all students and will count as a double daily grade. Students are responsible for their own ride to and from the Mercer Stadium. Please do everything within your power to make arrangements. NO EXCUSES!

This is a very important Rehearsal. Practicing at a Contest stadium is a priceless opportunity that will help our band to improve and set them up for success as contest season starts. We have our design team, sound engineers, and clinicians booked to help the band during this rehearsal. We can not accomplish our goals without EVERY member present.

The Band Hall will not be open after school on this day 3:00pm, go home.

Dress: Practice Uniform: White T-Shirts, Basketball Shorts, Tennis Shoes. NO CROCS!!!

Equipment Needed: Instrument, water jug(pre-filled with ice-water)

Instruments: Students must bring their own instruments home and bring them to the stadium with them.

We will only bring the following instruments on the trailer:

Front Ensemble, Druml Line, Tubas, Baritones, Bari Saxophones, Tenor Saxophones, Bass Clarinets

Contact Sheet- We are sending home a contact sheet that students need to fill out and bring back tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept 12th. Every student needs at least 15 contacts. They will input their contacts into the Widdy-Up page and Widdy-Up will send their pitch video to their contacts and request donations.

  • Each student that enters 15 contacts will get Donuts and a Shake gift on Friday, Sept 20th

  • 1st 3 students to hit $300 will get a gift card

  • The top section gets a pizza party(Amount raised divided by number of section members)

  • 3rd highest fundraiser will get gift cards

  • 2nd highest fundraiser will get gift cards, Movie Tickets

  • Top Fundraiser gets to be drum major for the last game, gift cards, canes gift card, Kempner Bracelet, Movie Tickets, Gift Card to Main Event

Section Prizes

  • Each section with 100% members raising $50 or more gets a Candy Bag

  • Each section with 100% members raising $150 or more gets to throw water balloons at Band Directors

  • Each section with 100% members raising $300 or more gets a movie night at Cinemark

Director Incentives

  • If we raise $10,000 Ms. Yen will be pied in the face by the Drum Majors

  • If we raise $15,000 Mr. Robillard will die his hair maroon(with real hair die)

  • If we raise $20,000 Mr. Dratler will shave his beard

  • If we raise $25,000 Mr. Brodt will shave a K, Mr. Dratler will shave an H, and Mr. Robillard will shave an S the back of their heads
