Marching Band Update
We are beginning in person rehearsals this week. Percussion and color guard will be rehearsing at KHS starting 9/8. Woodwinds and Brass will NOT begin rehearsals at KHS until September 21st. Please check the calendar.
Options
All students can attend in person rehearsals and football games according to UIL guidelines regardless of if they choose the online school option or not.
As of right now, in person band rehearsals are optional according to FBISD.
Students who choose not to attend in person rehearsals will complete online assignments and participate virtually.
Calendar
I have updated the calendar to reflect our new schedule. Brass and Percussion will be meeting at Kempner HS on Monday and Wednesday evenings 5pm-7pm and Woodwinds and Color Guard will be meeting on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 5pm-7pm beginning the week of September 7th. We have split the rehearsals to maximize social distancing.
Football Games
I have uploaded the new football schedule to the calendar. As of right now FBISD's policy is that Marching Bands will only attend games in FBISD stadiums. Students will be dropped off and picked up by parents at the stadium and band will NOT be riding in busses. We have 3 games scheduled at Mercer stadium on Oct 2, 8, and 16. There is a possibility of playoff games starting the week of Nov 12. I do not have any info regarding those at this time.
Physicals
UIL has waived the physical requirement for marching band this year except for new students. Freshman and new students to Kempner are still required to have a UIL physical before they are allowed to participate. Please take care of this before rehearsals begin the week of September 7th.
Flip Folders & Liars
All Woodwinds and Brass students are required to have a flip folder and a liar. These items are specific to their instrument. Music and Arts, H&H, and Fort Bend Music Center all carry these items. You can also purchase them on Amazon. Students need to have these item no later than September 21st. We will take an Equipment Check grade on that day and check that students have these items.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions,
